NFRC.org—The Only Federally Recognized Window Rating Organization

The NFRC is a non-profit organization that administers a uniform, independent rating and labeling system for the energy performance of windows. The Department of Energys ENERGY STAR program relies on NFRC tests results to determine whether a window can qualify for an ENERGY STAR label. All ENERGY STAR labeled windows and skylights qualify for tax credit.

1. Go to www.NFRC.org and click on NFRC Certified Products Directory.
2. Click on Window under product type.
3. Select operator type (NOTE: Windows that move up and down are called a vertical slider; Windows that crank out are called a casement; Windows that slide back and forth are called a horizontal slider.)
4. Select manufacture(s) (NOTE: Many larger manufactures are listed under their parent company name. Ex. APCO’s Vinyl Hybrid Green Windows are listed under Ply Gem. APCO’s Wood Window is Marvin.)
5. Click Find Products

Look for manufactures with many windows that have a U-Factor less than or equal to .30 (The Lower the U Factor the better the window insulates). Window manufactures with few tested windows could lead to problems getting your tax credit.
