A new window installation in a modern home means so much more than it did in the past. We now have nearly endless options in design, material, and even more. But perhaps one of the biggest and most impactful changes was the shift to energy-efficient windows. Windows aren’t just a decoration anymore, or a good view of the garden. They’re an important part of your home comfort, and play a big role in overall efficiency.
That’s why at APCO we offer ENERGY STAR® rated windows for our Columbus, Ohio clients! Our team is dedicated to offering the absolute best in all regards, from beauty to longevity, and to energy-efficiency as well. Not sure what an ENERGY STAR rated window is, or what impact it can have on your home? That’s just fine, because today we’re here to tell you the what and why.
At its simplest, ENERGY STAR is a government program jointly executed under a collaboration between the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and the DoE (Department of Energy). The core of the program aims to certify and rate consumer home products by how energy-efficient and environmentally friendly they are.
The goal of this program is to provide consumers with products that are not only of exceptional quality, but also offer bigger benefits in home efficiency and comfort.
An efficient, ENERGY STAR rated window helps by primarily adding an appreciable insulation factor that works to reduce solar heat gain and prevent heat loss. In order to attain this certification products must fulfill a series of important criteria, including:
The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) is responsible for extensive testing and certifications for windows. It is an independent NPO (Non-profit organization) that has a single primary goal: Helping consumers make informed, objective decisions when purchasing home products.
This status makes them ideal for testing the worthiness of aspiring ENERGY STAR products and manufacturers, which provides you an effective baseline for judging new window products and installation for your home. They also provide extensive reports on product ratings and test aptitudes online, making it easier than ever to check and double check your new window.
Do note, however, that NFRC testing is a requirement for a window becoming ENERGY STAR rated, but the ENERGY STAR rating itself is judging different factors and details, such as window U-factor and heat gain coefficients.
At APCO we make a point of ensuring all of our products are ENERGY STAR rated. We care about the quality of service we offer, and a big portion of that is making certain our clients get the best we can muster both in the quality of our work and the products we offer. That’s why we choose ENERGY STAR rated manufacturers like:
